Polished Hair Care: A Jewel of a Salon on the Champs Elysees

Nicole @ the 2005 Carson-Softsheen Golden Scissors CompetitionInspired by her mom Michelle, San Francisco native Nicole Pembrook began her career in cosmetology at the tender age of fourteen. Her career choice would lead her to Japan, London and eventually, France. After four years of freelancing and participating in hair shows, her hard work finally paid off when she won the 2005 Softsheen-Carson’s Golden Scissors Award - European Division.

Having won one of the most prestigious awards in the hair care industry, Nicole instinctively knew that her next step should be to open a salon in Paris. Pembrook searched continuously for the perfect location and it took her a year before she finally landed a sweet spot for her salon: not only is it on the swanky Champs Elysees (oh la la!), but it is located in the same building that housed the famed Lido Cabaret, where African American notables such as Ray Charles and international beauty icon Josephine Baker once performed.

Polished Hair Care officially opened in August 2006 and is the latest African American owned salon to hit the City of Light. Nicole redesigned the space to reflect a chic boudoir, where women can come and get pampered from head to toe. The salon specializes in cuts, color, straightening techniques and extensions and also offers makeup and hair styling services for a bride-to-be’s special day.

To quote Nicole: “Polished Hair Care is more than a hair salon. It is a sanctuary where women of all origins can experience professionalism and tailor-made services.”

So sisters, show Nicole some love and stop by Polished Hair Care salon. Don’t forget to tell them Cafe de la Soul sent you!
